My name is Mrs. Lori Wightman and this is my fourth year teaching at Ames. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Communication and English and my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in mathematics. I love being a teacher at Ames and I feel honored to be a part of your community.

First grade is such an exciting time for students and families! Our year is filled with lots of excitement and growth!  Every student is expected to be respectful to everyone and to be a responsible student at all times.

Ask us about our effort rubrics and our learning goals in reading, writing, and math.  We set goals for ourselves and then monitor our progress throughout the year. 

We have been learning how to write small moment stories.  A small moment is when you write about something that has happened to you and you stretch the moment out with lots of details!  Please listen to our December stories!

We are learning to spell new words in first grade.  Each week we add 5 new high frequency words to our Word Wall.  Through various activities, we learn how to read and spell these words correctly and use them in our daily writing.  You can find our weekly words by clicking on the link.
