Third grade at Ames Elementary is filled with a variety of exciting and challenging experiences. In science, students will learn with hands-on experiments through the study of simple machines, the solar
system, matter and biomes/animals. In social studies, they will be introduced to the history of the American Revolution. Economics is another hands-on study of our money, profit/loss, supply/demand concepts. The third graders will be introduced to the world of cursive writing. They will also continue 6 1 traits of writing.
We read a variety of literature in guided reading groups while emphasizing expository reading. Students will also learn about biographies in language arts. Parents are invited to the “Afternoon with the Notables” where students dress up as the famous characters they studied as a culminating activity for this unit.
Field trips will include visits to the Imax Theater, museums, and plays. We also invite several guest speakers relating to our curriculum!
