Kindergarten children at Lewis Ames are actively involved in becoming life long learners and risk takers, as well as, cooperative and motivated children in a very warm and caring environment. By providing developmentally appropriate practices, children engage in hands on learning activities that develop strong literacy, writing, math, science, and social studies skills. This is accomplished through individual, small and large group instruction, shared reading, interactive writing, guided reading groups and center activities. A kindergartner also explores art, music, technology, physical education, and library. Providing this type of environment for children ensures the social, emotional, physical, and academic development of every child, which allows them to become independent learners and develop the skills that they will need to succeed in first grade.
